Leaders

I read something today I thought was interesting concerning leadership. It talked about how good leaders seem to have an inner intuitive side to them and use it more when others shy away. The question is why do most shy away? It seems that many of us are "trained" to follow orders and follow along, while these leaders tend to do their thing, yet still listen to outside advice. The question becomes, how does one know when to drive in a direction and "follow your gut" and when not to. For leadership development assistance, go to http://www.hedgehogconsultinginc.com/. You can also go to http://www.myleadershipcall.com/ to sign up for weekly leadership tips and information just like this delivered to your cell phone.
Have a great week!

The book I was reading was: Mangement of the Absurd by Richard Farson

FanBase at MIZUCON

Hey all you fans of FanBase Danny Ryde here to tell you all about our time at Mizucon. First the convention was held at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Miami a beautiful hotel with expensive parking. The convention was a blast; they had a good size dealer’s room with very friendly and energetic dealers. The dealers room had everything an anime could want, DVD’s, figurines, some very cool superhero sweat shirts, swords, hentai, wall scroll’s the list could just go on and on. We had our booth set up at the end of the hall which worked for us since we had a clear view of practically the whole room. Mizucon also had a game room with some very awesome games such as Batman arkham asylum, a game I had been dying to play. They also had Street Fighter 4, Halo, Punch Out, Rock Band 2 and many others. I spent I majority of my free time there playing Batman. They had two viewing rooms which always had something interesting onto watch. There was also a main events room where the special guests of the convention signed autographs, interacted with the con attendees and where Dances were held at night. There was also a sword fighting area that was set up by Sleeping Samurai. In this area people could have sword fights with foam patted weapons. Big B and Evil Jeff had a few matches there, I wonder who won? There was also artist alley with many wonderful and interesting works of art could be seen.

So Evil Jeff and myself arrived at the hotel Thursday night and nothing much happened so were going to skip to Friday. On Friday we got our booth setup and ready to go. Friday was the slowest day for the convention because everybody forgot that school had started so the morning and early afternoon’s the con wasn’t very busy but things really picked up at about 3pm. Attendees came the con ready to explore. The dealer’s room was busy with people looking and buying anything they could. Evil Jeff and I took turns walking around the convention handing out flyers and telling people about the show and staying at the booth handing out flyers and telling people about the show. The highlight of Friday for me was interviewing voice actor Vic Manyana who you may know as the voice of Edward Elric for Full Metal Alchemist and Dark from DN Angle and getting his autograph. After the dealer’s room closed Jeff and I decided to go to the late night hentai party that was going on in the panel room. Unfortunately I didn’t stay to long because I was exhausted from the work we did, but the parts I did stay around for were fun. We played this game that was like pin the tail on the donkey but instead of a tail you had to pin boobs on princes. After that I went to bed but Jeff said the party was a lot of fun they watched some hentai and played another game were people got to voice act over the hentai, I’m sorry I decided to go to bed.

Saturday was the busiest day of the con. The dealer’s room was packed and Big B and Krysta came to the con and helped us out a lot. Big B watched the booth Krysta and I went around to passing out flyers and telling people about the show. That day I interviewed Doug smith a widely known artist in the anime community and the voice of Kintaro from the anime Golden Boy. I also got arrested by a an Akutski cop who I was apparently stalking when I went to Supercon. You can hear my recorded interrogation on Thursday’s show. Having the whole team there was a lot of fun, Big B and Evil beat the crap out of each other at the sword area and Krysta bought some cat ears that were so kawai. We talked to so many people on Saturday that my throat hurt that night there were so many cool people there that seemed interested in our show that I was beside myself with excitement. After the dealer’s room closed we all went to the viewing room to watch an anime called soul eater, an anime about a female grim reaper and her scythe it was very entertaining. After that Big B and Krysta and to leave and me and evil Jeff were overwhelmed with sadness. That night Jeff went off to do his own thing while I went to the yaoi party. It was like the hentai party but this party was about Gay guy on guy adult anime. It was a lot of fun but again I left early again which actually was a good thing because I heard the party went on till 5am which if I had stayed I would be a walking zombie for the whole day Sunday.

Sunday was the middle day not quite as busy as Saturday but nowhere near as slow as Friday. Jeff and I handed out more flyers and talked to more people. Unfortunately we had handed out so many flyers that practically all the people already had a flyer and new about us. Which was great because we knew we had gotten the word out but bad because bow we had nothing to do for the day. Jeff watched the booth while I went to do interviews for Thursdays show and boy did I get them. I interviewed the head of Sushicrowd.com which is an otaku media agency who like us are trying to show that otaku are more than just anime fans. I also interviewed David Williams who is a director for anime company ADV. I talked to Mike Sinterniklaas who you may know as Dean from The Venture Brothers. I also talked to Illich Guardiola and Wendy Powll who was Envy from the series Full Metal Alchemist. We also interviewed Jo the person who made it possible for FanBase to come to Mizucon and who is responsible for Mizucon coming into existence. All the interviews of the guests of Mizucon well be played on Thursdays show so tune in to find out how you favorite VA’s got started and what they have planned for the future. We here at Fanbase wish to thank Jo for letting us come to Mizucon and experience such a wonderful time, all the voice actors for taking time out of their schedule to sit and talk with us and all the dealer’s in the dealer room for helping us and Finally to the most important people of all Every con attendee for listing to us and listing to our show we thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts. Tune in this Thursday at 4pm for FanBase and a full review of Mizucon and all the interviews that went on there. This is Danny Ryde andi will see all of you in Thursday.

W4CY Radio & Get Real Teen Talk Featured on Channel 5 NBC News

Wellington teen talk show gets worldwide attention

Last Update: 11:42 am

WELLINGTON, FL -- High school Freshmen Rachael Piper and Rachel Bogert are hosts of "Get Real", an hour long show, broadcast weekly at http://www.w4cy.com/., an internet radio station.

"It's not really different than talking to a group of friends in the courtyard," Piper said.  "That's how it feels."

Produced in a small Wellington studio, and broadcast around the globe, the station is now ranked 25 in talk shows out of more than ten thousand internet stations worldwide.

No subject is off limits for the teens, including a recent show highlighting the pressures that come along for teens when entering high school for the first time.

"I would like to go to a whole new school and get a brand new image of myself if I could," Piper told her audience.

Much of the interaction with listeners comes from questions e-mailed through the radio show internet chat room.

Friend and co-host Shauna Bogert keeps track of the incoming chats.

"Someone wants to know if cliques are defined in high school, like you see in the movies," Bogert said as she read from the computer.

"There is definitely cliques," Piper said.  "You can look in the courtyard and see it clearly."

Station owner and father of one of the hosts, Dean K. Piper, says he ventured into internet radio six months ago with the mission of reaching out to people with positive messages that can change their lives for the better.

"Basically I am looking for this to be a household name," he said.  "In the future, this is what media will be about."

Spread through word of mouth and sites like Facebook and Twitter, 'Get Real' has hit a chord with young people

"I feel like I can be honest on this show and not get judged," Bogert said.

The success of the show has also given its hosts new ambition.

"I have people tell me 'We love your show'," Bogert said.  " I've always loved to talk but I never thought I could make a career out of something I love."

The teen show can be heard live every Thursday night from 6 pm to 7 pm on http://www.w4cy.com/.

The station airs a variety of talk shows including an 'Animation Video Gaming' show.

Customer Service

On August 20, 2009, I spoke about customer service and what that should look like, what it shouldn't look like, and how to make an impact on your team to create a culture of customer service focus. If you want to listen to the show, go to my website above, go to the radio page, then click on the appropriate day's show. One thing I would like to repeat that I said during the show is what you do as a leader either strengthens or weakens your customer service position. If your actions say something different than what you ask your team to do, they will never follow what you ask. Make sure you lead by example. One last thing, take today and look around entrance (whether office or store or otherwise). What would a customer think of you and your business by what it looks like when you walk in? Does it say we care about you (the customer) or does it say, we're sloppy/messy/uncaring??? Ask your team, ask others what they think. Maybe it's time to make that right first, then work on customer service!

Until next time,
Rob

The World of Warcraft and MMORPG’s

Hello to all the FanBase listeners this is your dark keeper of the sacred blog Danny Ryde. On the last show of FanBase we were all about Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPG’S). Now since the hosts of FanBase only know about the basics of MMORPG’S we thought we had better bring in people who had more in-depth knowledge about the games. So we brought in our friend Fearless Leader and for the first time on our show Da Noise.

We started the show off a little different then usual. I had acquired some new sound bits and wanted to try them out. So we opened with the Log Song from the old school cartoon Ren and Stimpy. Then we did our normal opening and did our blast of sugar which was Dai Maho Toge from the anime of the same name by Rina Satou. After sugar we went in to WTF News. The stories for this show included man gets pienes glued to stomach, Squreenix sues cosplayers for scenes resembling FF7 Advent Children Movie, hostess bar in Japan hires 12 year old girls and Nintendo busts DS Pirate. After the news we played the opening to the popular sci-fi show Doctor Who.

After the song we went into our first discussion about MMORPG’s. The topic was what is the appeal of the World of Warcraft I asked our guests why WOW is so popular. Fearless Leader’s answer was it’s popular because it allows people to get their aggression out by being annoying by brining grief to other players. Da noise says its their promotion team did a great job by glorifying group battles and quests and raids. Their final answer to my question is that it’s EASY. Da Noise described a game he is currently playing called EVE. He described it as a Mount Everest of MMORPG’s. Its a completely different world with its own economy and everything ahs a tutorial even the tutorial has a tutorial. We learned an important fact in the MMORPG of Final Fantasy even if your a level 5 it is possible to be killed by pink fluffy bunnies. We Learned that Everquest players are worse then WOW players. They don’t ever see the sun. We Learned that the best ways to get some one who is addicted to the game is to make broke poor in the game, let them get board with the game or take away their internet for a month. After the discussion Evil Jeff and Big B gave a review of Anime Festival Orlando. We Learned that Fearless leader got killed by Da Noise in AFO’s annual assassin's game. Their dealers room was primarily anime merchandise and they had a live action role playing game that Evil did not take part in. We also learned that Big B did not meet his stalker and we gave him a good on air scolding for that. Unfortunately after that we had to make the announcement that Krysta is leaving FanBase because of school at the end of this month. So we are looking for a new female host. If you are interested please send us an email about yourself to fanbase@w4cy.com, you must live in the west palm beach area and be able to attend show planning meetings and the show. Then we played Duvet by Boa from Serial Experiment Lain.

Then we tried something new. We did a skit with Evil Jeff’s alternate persona Pimp Man. Here's the story you see Pimp Man is disgusted at the way many male anime characters are behaving. So he has decided to travel through the anime worlds and teach these failures how to be true pimps. His first pimp apprentice was Negi Springfield from the anime Negima. It took some doing but after a lot hard slaps to the face Negi understood how to be a true pimp and now keeps his 31 girls in line at all times. The we had a debate between Fearless Leader and Da Noise to see what the best MMORPG is. Da Noise was saying how the greatest one is Eva and his reasons are. They are on only one server, the game is it;s own universe you get to define what happens, Fearless leader argued that leaving a game completely in the hands of the players well inevitably lead to chaos and end the game. Because once the players get board the game is done. After the debate we went into the Arcade Block with Adema and immortal then Tear Drop from Assassins Creed and finally Sparkling from Tekken 5. Then we had our media releases and then Big B and Evil Jeff’s Random Thought of the Day. We then closed the shoe with Aozora no Namida from the anime Blood Plus. That's was our MMORPG show.

FANBASE and MARK MCKENNA

Hello to all the listeners of FanBase. This is the keeper of the blog Danny Ryde here to tell you what you missed on last weeks show. Last weeks show was a comic show and had only 3 hosts. Krysta was working for a camp run by her church so she was unable to make the show. However she will be on this weeks show. FanBase started things off like we always do with a blast of Sugar. We played Doki Doki Waku Waku from Oran Host Club, which was requested by our friend Sasha Beers. If you have a song from an anime series, movie or video game that you would like to be played send us an email at fanbase@w4cy.com. That song in my opinion was the most sugar songs that we played. It gave me cavities. What's the most girly anime song that you have heard? After the sugar we did our news segment WTF NEWS. Our stories for the show last week were: “Robot Strangles Man”, “ATT Tries To Shut Down Parts of 4Chan”, “Suicide Club Sex Strangler Hanged” and “House Wife Charges Husband $40 for Lunch Box $50 for sex”. After WTF NEWS we played Vindicated by Dashboard Confessionals from Spiderman 2.

We then went into our discussion which was The Difference Between Comic’s and Manga. Evil Jeff liked that with Manga every volume in a series is written by the same author until that series is done. Where as with comic books their could be different writers for each issue of a comic with a certain character and that can make the stories confusing at times. Big B likes the simplicity of the time lines with Manga. In Manga if you want to find some thing out you can just go to volume 1 of the series. In comic books if you want an explanation about something you either have to go back to the golden age of comics or the beginning of a particular story arc. I also like the simplicity of Manga but sometimes its fun to have an expanded universe such as the ones in American comics. What are your opinions on manga and American comics? We would love to hear your thoughts on this. After our discussion we played Shell by Bana from the anime Witch Hunter Robin. After the song Evil Jeff and I harassed Big B a little about his mom being in the chat room  then our special guest called in. Our guest was Mark McKenna, a cover artist and ink artist in the comic industry for over 25 years. He has done art and covers for Spiderman, Aquaman, Batman and other comics. He has worked for both Marvel and DC Comics and is currently working on his own self published comic Banana Tail. He was a real pleasure to have on the show also if and when he comes down to Florida he’s going to play soft ball for W4CY. Everyone has a favorite comic book artist. You heard about Mark McKenna why don’t you let us know who  your favorite comic book artist? After our interview with Mark we went into the Arcade Block. We started last week off with God Hand from the video game God Hand. Then we took a time machine back to the 1980’s early 90’s. We played the opening to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. then we played Vanilla Ice’s Ninja Rap from the 2nd movie. Finally we finished the block with the opening song from Ghostbusters. Was their a game or TV show or movie that you were obsessed with when you were a little kid? What was it and why did you like it? After that block we did our media releases and then went into Evil Jeff’s and Big B’s random thought of the day. This time their thought was blaming Dr. Manhattan and his blue penis for cancer. Finally we closed the show with the song Audience Killer by Dir En Grey. That was last week’s show of FanBase. If there is a song or a particular artist you would like to hear or if you have a topic you would  like to talk about email us at fanbase@w4cy.com or check out our myspace page at myspace/w4cyfanbase and our Face book. Just go to Face book ant search for Fan Base. That will do it for this blog. Be sure to tune in this week at 4pm (Eastern Standard time) at www.w4cy.com for more FanBase
