The Nexus And Fan Base

Hey! This is Danny Ryde again. Ok, on the last show of Fan Base we had Justin, the manager of operations for the Nexus, a gaming center in Boynton Beach. First for those of you who are unfamiliar with the Nexus allow me to explain.

The Nexus as stated before is a gaming center located at the Boynton Beach Mall right across from the movie theater. In the Nexus, they have a nice selection of video games such as Guilty Gear, Blaze Blue, DDR, SNK VS Capcom 2, Need For Speed and Time Crisis 4, and their newest game, Which is an arcade version of Guitar Hero.

Now, apart from having an arcade in the front of the Nexus, the back is set up for LAN parties and computer gaming. In the back are about 40 computers ready for you  to play either online or in a local party. They have it setup for a wide variety of games such as Bioshock ,Call of Duty 4 - Modern Combat, Call of Duty: World at War, City of Heroes, City of Villains, F.E.A.R, Fallout 3, Final Fantasy Online, Gears of War, and many others. They also sell plenty of energy drinks including BAWLS the official energy drink of all LAN parties. This way you’ll be able to play all through the day and into the night.

Finally, they have a Lock-In once a month. A Lock-In at the Nexus is where there is non stop gaming on all arcade and computer games from 10pm Friday night to 10am Saturday morning. There are also plenty of drinks, pizza and subs. The Nexus uses a  power card system. That's where you pay a certain amount of money for a certain amount of time. The Nexus always has reasonable prices for playing time. If you are a gamer of any kind you should definitely check out the Nexus. For more info check out nexusexperience.com or call them at 561-737-5891.

Our guest host on this past Thursday show was Justin from the Nexus. He told us about what the Nexus is and what goes on at their Lock In’s. What really surprised me is that Justin is a former professional Starcraft player, and that sometimes during these Lock-Ins players will challenge him to Starcraft for prizes. These prizes could be a new TV or a brand new Gaming computer. So far I haven't heard of him losing even when he played against one gamer were he had to have one eye closed, stand on one leg and he could only use the mouse to play. Justin was a great guest to have on the show, He was a lot of fun and we look forward to having him back on in the future.

Unfortunately, Justin couldn't stay for the whole show because he had to get back to work. On the show  we played an interview that Big B and I did with two DC comic artists, Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti who were promoting their new comic book Power Girl. Then we had WTF news. Our stories included Lucky Star engine oil, two Florida tourists who tried to rape a porcupine (OUCH), legendary anime Director Hayao Miyazaki will be visiting Berkley University in California to receive the Berkley Japan Prize for Lifetime Achievement Award. Also Chris Hemsworth (Captain Kirk’s father in the new Star Trek movie) is going to play Marvel comic hero Thor in the planned Avengers movie in 2012. We also premiered a new segment on  the show called the Arcade Block. That segment of our show is where we play three or four songs that are either from video games or relate to video games in someway. This week we played songs from Guilty Gear, Initial D and DDR. Then we had video game reviews, Krysta reviewed Trauma Center 2 for the Nintendo DS. I reviewed Wanted: Weapons of Fate. Big B reviewed a Tsukihime fighting game and then debated the game with Evil Jeff. After that we gave out cheat codes for the new WII game Punch Out. Then we had  anime and Movie and game release dated for the end of May. Finally we ended the show with the newest song from Linken Park: New Divide from the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen movie. It was a great show and afterwards we all went to see Terminator: Salvation. We will give a review of that on our next show. After the movie we went to the Nexus, played Left 4 Dead for an hour. We then called in a night. So it wasn't just a great show all in all it was a greatd day.

I’m not going  to give you a preview of the next show. That would take way from the randomness that we revolve around. So tune in next week to Fan Base on w4cy.com at 4pm next Thursday. Remember if you want to get in contact with us for any reason, fan mail, hate mail, song request or discussion topics, any reason at all email us at fanbase@w4cy.com. That’s it! All I will say now is “See you next Thursday at 4pm”. This is Danny Ryde saying Sayonara.

3rd show and going Strong

Hey this is Danny Ryde, so last Thursday was the 3rd show of Fan Base and it went great. We talked about anime, reviewed comic books, gave out cheat codes for GTA 4 and reviewed the new Star Trek movie. The show is only getting better, because now we have a new co-host Krysta a special friend who i think of as my little sister.

As Dean puts it she has more wits than Evil Jeff, Big B and me combined. She really enhances  the entertainment and randomness of the show because even though she is quiet at times when she does talk you never know what she’s going to say. For example we were talking about the new Terminator movie and how we were lucky we weren't going to see Arnold naked and Krysta said she would rather see Termanipples any day then see any of us naked. Krysta last Thursday came up with the newest internet movie term TERMANIPPLES. I wouldn't be surprised if the phrase termanipples started showing up on message boards during the weekend.

For WTF news we read a story about the first Japanese astronaut testing stink free space underwear and how they worked. We also had a story about a doctor who during a female patients colostomy exam his hand “slipped” and the tube went into her vagina. He has been brought up on charges of sexual assault. Also we had a story how the anime boom seems to be coming to the end and some higher ups in the anime industry blame how many anime production companies are releasing to much anime at one time and people are becoming overwhelmed and how a lot of the anime shows are pretty much the same thing. So not only are anime fans being overwhelmed by so many new releases but they are becoming bored because it’s the same thing they have seen a million times before.

Toward the end of the show I sang happy birthday to Big B in Japanese as best I could. I also did another Joker impression. The best part of the show was when we reviewed the new Star Trek movie. The short version is that whether your a seasoned, die hard or newcomer to the world of Star Trek you will love this movie. The only negative thing to say about this movie is the camera work gets a little hard to follow during some of the fight scenes. However that is only a small thing compared to the grandness of this movie.

Finally a little inside into our next show, We may or may not have the owner of the Nexus gaming center on with us next time. We may or may not have a famous voice actor do a phone in to the next show. One final thing that I will tell you that doesn't really have  to do with Fan Base but more with me Danny Ryde. Sometime in the future my two bosses Dean and Peter are going to have me dance with an 8ft tall grizzly bear, this is no joke its real and they are going to tape it so you can see it at w4cy.com. We don't know when this is going to happen yet, but when we do we will definitely  let our fans know. That's it! Nothing left to say till next week. This is Danny Ryde and be sure to listen to Fan Base next Thursday at 4pm at w4cy.com.

This Week On Fan Base And Peters Living Room

Hey all you W4CY fans and readers Danny Ryde here to let you know what’s going on this week with two of our most popular shows, Peters Living Room and Fan Base.

Happening in Peters Living Room this week besides admiring the new curtains and coffee table that he picked out, this Monday Matt Delaney a singer/song writer of rock, folk, and pop guitar will be a guest in the living room. On Tuesday his guests will be Alex and Joan or as they are also known  “Like Honey”. They have toured with Bob Hope on his USO tours, been on the Ed Sullivan show and have worked in Las Vegas. Thursdays Peters Living Room goes GREEN. talking about the environment, ecology and the living planet earth. Sounds like a very entertaining week to stop by Peters Living Room.

Happening this week with the anime, comic and game show Fan Base. I can’t really tell you what we have planned because that would just take away from the random and crazy feeling that Fan Base is all about. However I can tell you that my adorable little sister Krysta will be back on the show as a permanent host for the rest of the summer and maybe even longer. So while I can’t tell you what's going to happen this week on Fan Base I can tell you that it will be a bit more controlled then last week and a hell of a lot more embarrassing for me. so look forward to that and don't forget to let us know what you think and share your ideas with us at fanbase@w4cy.com see you on Thursday.

Article in Forum Publications Newspapers including Sun-Sentinel & Wellington Forum

Radio hosts turn their Thursday broadcasts 'green'

JASON PARSLEY | Forum Publishing Group
April 22, 2009

Motivational speaker and online radio host Dean Piper of Wellington recently decided to turn Thursdays at his online radio station into "Green Thursdays" from noon to 3 p.m. at www.w4cy.com. Piper recently left the online radio station in Greenacres to open up his own that would be based in Wellington so he could better serve the western communities. Piper and his partner Peter Wein both wanted to do something for the environment when they decided to start their own station.

"We want to educate people on how they can make a huge difference without it making a huge impact on their lives," Piper said. "For instance when you brush your teeth you don't have to have the water running the whole time. There are little things that we all can do to save the environment that doesn't really affect our lives such as shutting off the lights when you leave the house."
The three shows that run on Thursdays start at noon with "Peter's Living Room" hosted by Wein about current issues in Wellington; at 1 p.m. "The Power of You" hosted by Piper; and at 2 p.m. "The Peter/Piper show" hosted by Piper and Wein. On Thursdays, however, each show will have a "green" theme.

"Hopefully someone will listen to the show and they will get together with their friends and they will discuss something they learned with them," Wein said. "We've got an audience. We have ears listening to what we say and we want to educate them and inform them."

Premier Show of Fan Base

Hey it’s Danny Ryde, I just wanted to let all the W4CY fans out there know about my brand new show Fan Base, it’s W4CY’s premier show about anime, video games, manga, comic books, etc. Its on every Thursday at 4pm. On it we talk about anime, video games, comic books, conventions, weird news happening in Japan.Pretty much any thing that come up in the world of geeks we will talk about. Also we play a lot of music from anime TV series, music from video games and music form Japanese rock and pop bands. So if your into Japanese animation and video games or if your just curious about stuff like that then Fan Base is definitely a show you want to check out. Remember it’s on every Thursday at 4pm on w4cy.com, come check us out.

So last Thursday we had our Premier show of Fan Base. It was great! The hosts of fan base are myself (Danny Ryde), my two good friends Evil Jeff and Big B and a special friend who is like a sister to me Krysta. On it we first had our intros so the W4CY fans would know who we are and not think were a bunch of weird people who broke into the W4CY studio and hijacked the equipment. After that we played a song called Cagayake Girls, its a very poppy girlish song and it’s a part of Fan Base called sugar rush because that’s what us anime fans call songs like that. Its meant to grab peoples attention and wake them up. After that we did WTF News (What The fill in the blank). These are crazy or weird news stories that are going on either in Japan or in the Geek community. Some of the stories we had were: ways for men in Japan to not be accused of molesting some woman on the train, a 59ft model of a popular anime battle suit called a Gundam is being built in Japan, and a Japanese college professor is being brought up on charges of sexual assault for fondling female students breasts over a teaching period of 20 years. Then we played Exile which is the opening song from the video game Street Fighter 4. After that we did a review of classic video games that we liked, I reviewed Little Nemo for the NES, Krysta reviewed Sonic for the Sega Genises and Big B reviewed a few games for the Super NES, evil Jeff couldn't review anything because he isn't really a classic gamer and he got BOOOOOOOOOed. After that we played Hanji which is the opening song to the anime Maria Holic. We wanted to do more on the show but we only had an hour, and the songs took longer then we thought so after Hanji we had to say Sayonara and ended the show with Redemption. The ending song to the game Final Fantasy VII Dirge off Cerberus. All and all i would say that our first show went GREAT and we can’t wait to get back on the air. Also just to let all the fans out there who liked Krysta don’t worry. Originally she was just going to be a guest host for that one show, but we had so much fun with her that she is now a full time host. Fan Base will be back next Thursday on w4cy.com with more craziness about anime, video games and comic books. so come check us out and become part of our Fan Base. So this is Danny Ryde saying I will see you all next Thursday at 4pm.

Sayonara.
